Centralised SCADA system

Project Summary
An Open Platform for Nationwide Traffic Monitoring and Active Management
CROSS has successfully implemented a modern, centralized SCADA system for monitoring and controlling traffic signals in Denmark. The solution, built on the eDaptiva platform, enables unified oversight of an extensive transportation infrastructure while connecting devices from different manufacturers, external data sources, and other systems.
The central system provides a unified view of the traffic network within a single environment. Operators have access to real-time device status, alarms, data from detectors, signal schedules, and other operational information. Thus, the system not only provides passive monitoring but also creates an active control layer for the traffic infrastructure.
The solution currently monitors more than 350 traffic signal controllers from various manufacturers, primarily Swarco and Stührenberg. Thanks to its open architecture, traffic control is not limited to a single technology or specific supplier. Additional devices, detectors, and external systems can be integrated into the system without significant changes to its underlying architecture.

Open architecture without technological limitations
One of the key principles of the solution is interoperability. eDaptiva communicates with devices via the OCIT-O 3.0 and OCIT-C standards and enables seamless integration with technologies from different manufacturers.
At the same time, this open approach creates room for further system development. New types of detectors can be added, external data sources can be integrated, and higher-level traffic management systems can be connected without the need for major changes to the central platform.
Another key component of the solution is the integration of strategic data. Data from detectors and other sources is aggregated and visualized within the system for further analysis. Historical data, audit trails, logs, and tools for filtering, exporting, and performing technical analysis are all available.

From Monitoring to Active Management
eDaptiva not only allows you to respond to the current state of the traffic network, but also to automatically manage traffic based on that state.
The system supports condition-based logic and scenarios that can be triggered based on predefined conditions and real-time data. For example, depending on the traffic situation, data from strategic detectors, or the occurrence of an emergency, the system can automatically activate the appropriate signal plan or another control scenario.
At the same time, operators can control individual devices directly from the central system—for example, by switching signal plans, restarting controllers, or activating defined operating states.
As a result, the SCADA system evolves from a traditional tool for monitoring device status to an active tool for managing transportation infrastructure.

A Secure Cloud Solution Ready for Further Development
The entire solution is operated in the cloud as a SaaS offering, which provides flexibility in system management and future expansion. The platform supports secure integration with the government’s data infrastructure via REST API and enables the connection of additional systems and data sources.
The solution also includes integration with the customer’s Identity Provider, including support for Azure AD. The system is accessible from both computers and mobile devices and is fully localized into English.
The project thus creates a long-term, sustainable foundation for the further digitization of traffic management in Denmark. The open architecture allows for the gradual expansion of the system with new technologies, data, and features without dependence on a single vendor.
