CrossWIM is expanding its OIML R 134 certified configurations. In addition to the Kistler Lineas configuration that CROSS certified this year, a configuration with Intercomp Strip sensors is now also certified according to the same international specification. CrossWIM thus offers two certified configurations with different sensor technologies within one WIM platform.
Two sensor technologies in one WIM platform
CrossWIM 3.0 is designed as a WIM platform that enables the integration of sensors from different manufacturers. This year it received OIML R 134 certification for configuration with Kistler Lineas and now also for configuration with Intercomp Strip sensors. The CrossWIM 3.0 architecture allows the sensor part of the system to be adapted to specific project requirements, while the basic platform and its system functions remain common. The new certification extends this concept to another certified configuration.
Kistler Lineas and Intercomp Strip: two technologies, two measurement principles
Kistler Lineas uses piezoelectric quartz technology to measure the dynamic load of vehicles, while Intercomp Strip uses strain gauge load cells integrated into the sensor structure. These are two different technical solutions for WIM measurement. The choice between them thus represents the customer's option to choose a different sensing principle within the same CrossWIM 3.0 system platform.
Selecting sensor technology according to the project
Part of every WIM system design is the selection of the appropriate sensor technology. For example, the nature of the road, the design conditions of the installation site, the installation method, the measurement requirements or the specific application are taken into account. CrossWIM 3.0 allows these requirements to be taken into account when selecting sensor technology, while the basic system architecture remains the same. Kistler Lineas or Intercomp Strip can be selected according to the parameters of a specific project, with both technologies available in OIML R 134 certified CrossWIM configurations.
WIM data for various applications
The WIM system provides not only data on the weight of vehicles, but also data on their passage and the load on individual axles. CrossWIM obtains this data during the passage of the vehicle and allows its use according to the system configuration and the purpose of the specific application.
They can be used for example for:
- Automatic weighing of vehicles while driving
- Measuring the load of individual axles
- Pre-selection of potentially overloaded vehicles
- Monitoring traffic load
- Analysis of road and bridge loads
CrossWIM thus allows the use of data from WIM measurements for various types of applications according to the requirements of a specific project.
What do the certifications mean for the further development of CrossWIM
CrossWIM is currently the only WIM system with OIML R 134 certified configurations for two different sensor brands – Kistler Lineas and Intercomp Strip. For CROSS, obtaining both certifications confirms the ability to develop and certify various configurations of its own WIM platform. At the same time, it creates the basis for further deployment of CrossWIM in projects where automatic weighing of vehicles while driving and axle load measurement in accordance with the requirements of OIML R 134 are required. Two certified configurations with different sensor technologies thus expand the possibilities for further development and deployment of CrossWIM 3.0 as a common WIM platform.
