The weather is monitored by CROSS Zlín technology in Moldova

Thanks to our new cooperation, we were able to transfer the experience of our technicians and IT specialists to Moldova. In cooperation with the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure, we completed a pilot project to implement a road weather system in Moldova. Thanks to new technologies, they will be able to effectively manage winter maintenance, increase road safety and manage traffic not only in winter.

The weather is monitored by CROSS Zlín technology in Moldova

For pilot testing, we installed weather stations in Moldova on the R3 road in the Chisinau - Hincesti section and on the R6 road in the Chisinau - Orhei section. We also connected them to the METIS system, which provides comprehensive information about the current and future situation on the roads. Thanks to data from weather stations, forecasting models, satellites, radars and forecasts, the system provides dispatchers with clear and detailed data for efficient road maintenance and road situation prediction. In practice, this means easier and well-targeted maintenance and safer travel thanks to early warning of icebergs or snow tongues.

The project received US $ 40,000 co-financing from the United Nations Development Fund (UNDP) under the Czech-UNDP Partnership for Sustainable Development Goals. The total project budget was $ 75,000.

Moldova's Road Administration plans to expand the project with additional weather stations and modules (winter maintenance dispatcher module and winter maintenance performance and cost analysis module) and to introduce a similarly integrated system to the Czech Republic. It is unique in its scope in Europe and worldwide. In addition to increasing safety and improving the quality of winter maintenance, it also helps the Czech Republic to optimize its costs. For the Czech network of roads and highways CROSS Zlín delivered over 300 weather stations, integrated all other road weather stations, data from satellites, radars and forecasting modules into one common METIS system. We have also implemented pilot projects for comprehensive road weather systems in Bulgaria, Sweden or Georgia.
